Train
For Treatment is a program through which athletes and
non-athletes can support, meet, raise money and train on behalf
of young hemophilia patients of the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia
Center. Additionally, people who raise $300 or more can race
for free.
Train
For Treatment demonstrates the real motivation behind
why we do the Finger Lakes Triathlon.
Each
registered Finger Lakes Triathlon Train For Treatment athlete,
is immediately partnered with one of our young patients -
their "tribuddy." Athletes receive an information
packet about their tribuddy containing a personal profile
of the patient, including what he goes
through each day in living with a bleeding disorder, and what
the Center has done to make a positive impact on his life.
Athletes also gain a personal understanding of the daily challenges
faced by the parents of our young patients.
Small
Effort, Big Reward
We
ask each participant to commit to raising $300 or more for
the Center on behalf of his/her tribuddy. Once the goal is
reached, the athlete's entry fee for the triathlon is refunded.
More importantly, each athlete will be introduced to an amazing
young person who shows strength and courage on a daily basis.
As our special athletes cross the finish line, we hope they
do so with the knowledge that they played an important part
in improving the lives of people with bleeding disorders and
iron overload.
Every
Mile Counts
The
funds raised from Train For Treatment support nursing and
social work services and programs required to provide comprehensive
care for one bleeding episode and educational training for
home infusions. They also support special patient programs
at the Center.
